Background

The protein CHGA encoded by this gene is a member of the chromogranin/secretogranin family of neuroendocrine secretory proteins. It is found in secretory vesicles of neurons and endocrine cells. This gene product is a precursor to three biologically active peptides; vasostatin, pancreastatin, and parastatin. These peptides act as autocrine or paracrine negative modulators of the neuroendocrine system. Two other peptides, catestatin and chromofungin, have antimicrobial activity and antifungal activity, respectively. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

CHGA antibodyWestern blotting analysis using anti-chromogranin A antibody (Cat#63560). Total cell lysates (30 μg) from various cell lines were loaded and separated by SDS-PAGE. The blot was incubated with anti-chromogranin A antibody (Cat#63560, 1:5,000) and HRP-conjugated goat anti-mouse secondary antibody (Cat#101, 1:20,000) respectively. Image was developed using FeQ™ ECL Substrate Kit (Cat#226).
Western blotting analysis using anti-chromogranin A antibody (Cat#63560). Chromogranin A expression in wild type (WT) and chromogranin A (CHGA) knockdown (KD) HSHC cells with 20 μg of total cell lysates. Hsp90 α serves as a loading control.
Immunocytochemical staining of HAP-1 cells with Chromogranin A antibody (Cat#63560, 1:1,000). Nuclei were stained blue with DAPI; Chromogranin A was stained magenta with Alexa Fluor® 647. Images were taken using Leica stellaris 5. Protein abundance based on laser Intensity and smart gain: Medium. Scale bar, 20 μm.
